Have you noticed how much effort people put into planning their vacation? It’s often planned a year (or even two!) ahead just to make sure every little detail is in place. Why? They want it to be perfect with no hiccups and disappointments with an itinerary that nourishes them mentally and physically. Imagine sitting down at your computer and trying to plan a trip without a destination – pardon the grammar, but it ain’t gonna happen! You’re forced into making decisions regarding destination, time, place and budget.
Unfortunately, day-to-day living doesn’t have the same requirements. We can live our lives year after year without a destination, goals, timelines and commitments, and many often do. Are you a planner, a floater or a status “quo’er”? As for me, I was recently “awakened” by a sign at my yoga class: I CREATE MY LIFE
We, you and I, have a blank slate on which to write. January 1, 2017, signals a new beginning, a new year and so many possibilities. Can you feel the excitement as you realize YOU are the creator of your life?
Here is a quick exercise to help you determine your life’s destination. Good luck!
I CREATE MY LIFE
Questions to ponder – What’s your destination on your life trip? What will you put on your blank slate?
Be sure to allow yourself time to dream, be still, be patient and listen.
Identify your intention – your anticipated outcome on how you want to live your life.
e.g. I will strive for patience, kindness and will listen to understand.
I will intentionally look for humour in every event and reserve judgment.
I will look for opportunities to expand my knowledge and elevate my career.
I will intentionally seek ways to remove the importance of material gains and create new friendships.
Once you’ve set your intentions, you’ve created a destination.
How you get to your destination is your next step. In the meantime, be still, listen and prepare to go on the trip of your lifetime.
Until next time…Practice Safe Stress!
