Most of us understand we must manage our stress through exercise, getting sufficient sleep and a healthy diet. Yet, over half of us neglect to do so! Does this sound familiar?
If your stress management regime isn't working for you, it's time to take a step back and analyze why not.
According to behavioural therapists, our motivation to make a change, continue with a project or routine, or break a habit is directly related to the importance of the goal or reward for doing so. In other words, we need to connect the dots from behaviour to outcome. If the outcome is favourable for you, it's very likely you'll change and/or continue with behaviour. It's that simple.
Make the connection between your stress management activity and accomplishing your goal (your priorities).
Be laser focused about what's really important to you and why (your goal). For example, most people will state that good health and family are THE most important things in their lives. Understand that dedicating time to your stress management regime will help you be a healthy, amazing, productive and energetic mother, father, daughter, son, employee, etc. (and a great role model, too).
What small change will you make today to accomplish your goal?
