More than ever, Canadians are fulfilling several different roles. From workers, to parents, to spouses, to friends, to caregivers! We are doing it all and at the end of the day we are still expected to find the time to care for our own health and wellbeing. I know what you’re thinking, “Yah right, who has the energy for that?” My answer: you do! Or at least you will once you follow these simple tips to achieving a healthy work-life balance.
Know Your Needs
Everyone’s needs are going to be different. Understand what makes you feel stable and fulfilled and be sure to communicate these needs to others. If you force your friends, family and co-workers to play the guessing game, they may not come up with the right answer. Then no one’s happy. Whatever your needs happen to be, make sure you are transparent about them. Then watch, as the world begins to work with you instead of against you.
Once you have a clear understanding of what your needs are, be sure to create boundaries that will help you meet these needs. Learning to tune out of one role and into another can be difficult in the beginning, but is completely worth it in the end. When you clock out at the end of the workday, recognize that all of the emails and outstanding issues will be there in the morning. If you don’t personally respect your boundaries, no one else will.
You know the saying, “slow and steady wins the race”? This is a great motto to live by if you want to live a long, healthy, happy life!
Although there are certainly appropriate times to amp things up, no one can work at 110% all day, every day. Learning the value of pace and being aware of where to draw the line will reduce your stress levels drastically! By being self-aware you will enjoy the journey as much as the destination.
When our lives are in a state of balance, it's amazing how much better we feel and how much clearer we think. Here are some great quotes to keep you inspired and motivated to maintain stability and meet your goals.
