Be proactive not reactive! Here are three tips to help you stay calm and collected this holiday season.
Get a Head Start
As the days get shorter, it doesn’t hurt to climb into your flannel sheets in good time and wake up half an hour earlier than normal. Use this extra time to set the tone for your day. Enjoy a cup of coffee, read the news, relax in a hot shower. The less rushed you feel in the morning, the less stressed you will feel during your hours in the office.
Determine What Can Wait
We tend to go, go, go during the holidays. On top of our normal day-to-day responsibilities at work and in the home, Holiday Fanatics have to find time for shopping, decorating, baking and celebrating! Don’t overextend yourself. Prioritize what needs to be done when and have a clear plan of action. Ask yourself, “can this email/report/meeting wait?” Sometimes the answer is going to be no, but developing a sense of awareness around your priorities will help to calm the stress.
Recharge Your Battery
If your workplace tends to be high stress, the added pressure of the holidays can become unbearable in a hurry. Finding ways to recharge your mind, body and spirit, will help you to wake up feeling refreshed and motivated to tackle the day. Whether you choose to exercise, meditate or read a book, be sure to dedicate some time to yourself.
Yes, at this busy time of year, remembering to take care of yourself, knowing how to prioritize, and giving yourself some extra time in the morning will go a long way to making your life merry and bright.
